Panel Built, Inc. would like to thank Georgia Tech for hosting another great Northeast Georgia LEAN Consortium event at Roper Pump Company in Maysville, GA. This particular event began with donuts and coffee while Phil Smith, VP of Operations at Roper, gave the attendees a brief history of Roper Industries; and a general description of their business. Kelley Hundt, the key speaker of this event, then took the floor to begin discussing the topic of the day: Value Stream Mapping and Analysis.
To demonstrate the benefits of Value Steam Mapping, the group performed an exercise designed to show how to create a Value Stream Map based on a simple manufacturing process: making paper airplanes. As the exercise went on, and the Value Stream Map was completed, it became quite evident where the bottlenecks and non-value added time were.
After lunch, the group jumped right back in it; discussing some more detailed and industry specific examples of Value Stream Mapping. The event concluded with an impressive tour of the Roper Industries’ facility, where they manufacture high precision liquid pumps and related components. Overall, it was another outstanding event!
