Georgia Military College Training Tower
When Georgia Military College needed to replace its existing training tower, durability and long-term use were top priorities. Their previous tower no longer met the standards required for their military training needs, and they needed a structure that could provide more capacity, better access, and a longer service life.
Signature Research, a company specializing in aerial adventure structures, rappel towers, zip lines, canopy tours, and challenge courses, had worked with GMC before. For this new tower, they needed a steel structure that could support multiple types of height-based and rope training.
“Because they wanted that longevity, steel was the answer for that,” said Michael Johnson of Signature Research.
Panel Built worked with Signature Research to create a custom exterior training tower designed around GMC’s specific use. The 2,353-square-foot structure includes multiple training levels at 10 feet, 20 feet, and 35 feet, with roofing reaching approximately 45 feet. The design also includes internal stairs, lift-out gates, belay anchor attachments, bar grating, wood decking, and guardrails.
Like many custom projects, the tower required close coordination between the teams as the design and installation details came together. When challenges came up, Johnson said Panel Built stayed focused on finding the right solution.
“Panel Built always rose to the occasion,” Johnson said. “They always made things right.”
For Signature Research, the project also created a new opportunity for future clients who need a durable steel option for rappel towers, climbing towers, zip line towers, or similar training structures.
The completed Georgia Military College training tower brings together Signature Research’s experience in aerial training environments with Panel Built’s custom steel fabrication capabilities. The result is a stronger, longer-lasting structure built to support GMC’s training needs for years to come.
